A major new housing development on a greenfield site in Aberdeen will begin its 15-year transformation next month, with 3,000 new homes being built.
Stewart Milne will begin work on the Countesswells site after the UK government provided £86 million loan guarantee to get the project kick-started.
Over 1,000 construction jobs will be created at the site, which lies adjacent to the suburb of Cults and Hazlehead Golf Course.
The housing will include 750 affordable homes and the project will also see the development of new shops, parks, schools and healthcare facilities.
Scotland Office Minister Andrew Dunlop said: "This is a great example of partnership working where the government can unlock the capital and the potential of the development," while John Slater, the group managing director for homes at Stewart Milne, called the development "a critical project for the city over the next 15 years".
The city council granted planning permission in 2014 and has the luxury that a large area of greenfield land lies within its boundaries, inland from the historic granite city.
