The number of construction jobs in Birmingham has been boosted by a huge increase in the amount of commercial property being built in the city.
According to the latest Deloitte Crane Survey, 969,000 sq ft of commercial space was under construction during 2015, with 732,000 sq ft delivered in the first three quarters of the year.
This figure was the highest in 13 years and comes in stark contrast with the all-time low of just 14,000 sq ft recorded in 2013.
With a third of the new space completed in the first nine months of last year being rented out already, demand is high and this may help ensure the city continues to boom.
The report highlighted a number of factors as making the city centre an attractive place to build, such as the redevelopment of New Street Station and the expansion of the Midland Metro tram system.
As a result, new developments have been concentrated more in the centre, rather than surrounding areas such as Digbeth, Edgbaston and the Jewellery Quarter.
