A mixed-use scheme including 40 homes on the edge of the City of London is to go ahead after Boris Johnson overruled an earlier decision to reject the scheme.
The City fringe scheme at Norton Folgate was rejected by Tower Hamlets Council after objections from conservationists who wanted to retain the character of the area.
However, the scheme was called in last September along with another rejected proposal, located at Bishopsgate and straddling the boundaries of Tower Hamlets and Hackney.
Mr Johnson's decision means developer British Land can proceed with the Norton Folgate scheme right away.
As well as the homes, the £300 million project will include office space, 13 shops and two public open spaces.
The Bishopsgate plan will be subject to a public hearing at City Hall in March.
Mr Johnson has now called in 14 planning applications rejected by local authorities in London during his time in office, which will end in May this year.
