Bradford's Forster Square railway station is set to be transformed to coincide with an increase in rail links to London.
The station will be running a direct train to the capital every two hours from 2018 and that year could also see work start on a complete rebuild of the station building.
Plans have been drawn up between the Bradford City Council, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Network Rail and train operators Arriva, Virgin and Northern Rail, with the money coming from the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund.
Deputy leader of Bradford Council and a member of the Combined Authority's transport committee Councillor Val Slater said the city centre has improved in recent years, but acknowledged that "one of the things that does let us down is our stations".
The new station will address this by being lighter, more welcoming and having better facilities for passengers.
Discussing the blueprint, chairman of the Aire Valley Rail Users' Group Tim Calow told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus: "It looks like a proper station, a pleasant place to spend a little time, with all the facilities."
The city centre has two stations, the other being Bradford Interchange.
