Work to help improve flood defences in the West Yorkshire town of Mytholmroyd has continued with the removal of a damaged building next to the River Calder.
Contractors working with the Environment Agency (EA) are demolishing what remains of the former Whitesands Travel Agents building, as well as extracting rubble from the structure out of the river.
The Whitesands building collapsed during the Boxing Day floods and the damage done to the row of buildings it lies on along Burnley Road has been significant.
When the building has been cleared, EA staff will be able to further assess the needs of the site in order to ensure that future floods do not cause more structural damage to the buildings on Burnley Road.
Among proposed works to ameliorate the effects of future floods in Yorkshire is a £6 million flood reservoir designed to protect the village of Catterick and the A1 in North Yorkshire.
Construction of the 91 million gallon capacity reservoir will start in the spring.
