Graham Construction has secured a contract to transform an historic mill in east Manchester into a new residential development.
It has been selected by Manchester Life Development Company to transform Murray's Mills in Ancoats into 124 apartments of one, two or three bedrooms, with preparation work starting this month and the homes set to be ready for occupants by autumn next year.
Manchester Life is a joint venture between the city council and the Abu Dhabi United Group, which owns Manchester City, with plans to eventually build 900 new homes in the Ancoats and New Islington area.
Executive chairman of Manchester Life Marty Edelman said the priority has been to "preserve the heritage of one of Manchester's most important historical buildings, and in doing so, create a flagship residential scheme in keeping with the character of Ancoats".
It is not the only joint venture building new apartments on the east side of central Manchester, as Belgravia Living Group - a collaboration of Town Centre Securities and GMI Construction Holdings - has published a masterplan to build 900 new apartments in the Piccadilly basin area.
