The vast Nine Elms regeneration project in south London has already created large numbers of construction jobs - and one new part of the scheme is going to help provide the skills employers need.
Carillion is to build a new college in Lambeth that will train students in construction skills, enabling employers to have a local workforce to draw on as the various building works around the area take shape.
The £80 million project includes the building of a hotel and 200 new homes that will be sold to help fund the building of the college in Vauxhall, which will cost £45 million to construct.
As well as the immediate vicinity, new building projects in Elephant and Castle, Battersea and Waterloo will all need skilled labour in the next few years and the college could be vital in preventing a shortfall.
The Nine Elms project includes the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station and an extension of the Northern line on the London Underground, with two new stations.
