A new leisure centre is to be built in Rimford, with construction firm Wilmott Dixon being awarded the £25 million contract by Havering Council.
Hundreds of jobs will be created by the project, which will see a new ice rink and swimming pool being built in the town centre.
The pool will have eight lanes and be used for competition and the rink will be used by the London Raiders ice hockey team, with the public skating on it at other times.
It is the latest of several similar projects carried out by Wilmott Dixon, which has recently built leisure facilities in High Wycombe, Oldham and Dartford, while work is continuing on another facility in Scarborough.
The facility will also include a fitness studio and gym, dance studio and cafe.
