A major redevelopment project in West Yorkshire has moved a step closer getting off the ground after Wates Construction was named as the lead development partner.
Calderdale Council and key partner Pennine Housing are working on a project to transform the north side of Halifax, with 500 new homes set to be built in the Mixenden, Illingworth and Ovenden areas of the town.
The project will create hundreds of construction jobs as well as acting as a catalyst for wider regeneration.
Cabinet member for skills and the environment Jenny Lynn remarked: "Now Wates Living Space Homes has been appointed as developer, we can continue to progress this exciting scheme, bringing new jobs, improved open space and good quality housing and extra care facilities to north Halifax."
The benefits of the project may include the provision of training for unemployed people that will get them into work.
In Manchester, the recently-concluded £24 million Matrix Homes Housing Investment Fund project by Wates provided training to help 45 local jobless people into work.
