Thousands of people in Essex and Kent have been to see public displays of plans to build a new road tunnel under the river to link the two counties.
The Lower Thames Crossing - which would run from the end of the M2 in Kent to the M25 in Essex via a tunnel between Gravesend and Tilbury - was recently selected by Highways England as its preferred option for a link between the counties, in preference to an extra crossing at Dartford.
Over 8,000 have seen the displays so far, a figure that has pleased roads minister Andrew Jones.
He said: "I want everyone to have a say so the government can make the right decision about how to increase capacity."
It is 25 years since the last crossing was built between the two counties, with the government proposing a new crossing as the area stretching east from central London and out along the Thames Estuary is set to see a significant rise in population in the coming years.
The public displays will remain in place until March 24th.
