A survey of stakeholders and residents in Greater Manchester has prompted hundreds of suggestions of sites where new homes and commercial premises can be built.
The consultation was carried out to aid the ten local authorities in the city region as they plan the spatial strategy for the conurbation.
Around 170 responded to invites to take part and between them they suggested around 600 sites for development.
Lead member for housing and planning, councillor Sue Derbyshire, said the spatial framework will work out how many new homes are needed and where to build them, adding that the process "means looking at how we can do this in a way that creates attractive places that people want to live and work in".
The Greater Manchester Combined Authority has already produced a map of where residential development is planned, with the bulk of it in areas close to the centre of Manchester, including inner areas of Salford and Trafford, Ancoats and Miles Platting.
