Hundreds more construction jobs are about to be created in Manchester after the city council gave the green light to three projects.
The £60 million Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre will be constructed on a 2.1 acre site on Oxford Road, just outside the city centre.
It will contain over 87,000 sq ft of floorspace and the work taking place there will complement that being carried out by the university's own Graphene Institute, which is seeking to find ways to make use of the ultra-thin superconductor material.
A second building is also to be built in the university corridor, with Nuffield Health getting the green light to build a new hospital on the former Manchester Metropolitan University Elizabeth Gaskell Campus site, where demolition work has already taken place.
Planning permission has also been granted to renovate the former CIS building on Portland Street, adding another floor and turning it into a 183-bed hotel with a casino, plus ground floor retail space.
The developments add to the growth of construction in Manchester, with last month's Deloitte Crane Survey confirming building levels in the city have passed pre-recession levels.
