More than half of all Westminster's MPs believe that an extra runway at Heathrow Airport is the infrastructure project needed to give the UK economy a shot in the arm.
With both Heathrow and south London rival Gatwick currently battling it out for approval to expand, a new poll has found that a majority of politicians feel the former represents the best bet for economic prosperity.
Of those polled, 55 per cent said that they would prefer to see Heathrow expanded and a third runway added, while just 14 per cent expressed a preference for a second runway at Gatwick.
According to Heathrow Airport - which carried out the poll - the results show that expanding the West London hub is imperative if the UK is to thrive as an outward-looking trading nation in a post-Brexit world.
"A third runway at Heathrow will open up 40 new markets for Britain's exporters, spur inbound tourism to every corner of our country and create up to 180,000 new skilled jobs," chief executive John Holland-Kaye said.
