The Scottish renewable energy sector could be under threat should the Westminster government not offer it more support.
That's according to MPs serving on the Scottish Affairs Committee, whose new report comes on the back of a recent scaling back of funding earmarked for the construction of new renewables projects, despite the fact all the latest statistics show just how valuable the sector is to the Scottish and the UK economy as a whole.
Indeed, according to the Committee, Scottish renewables now account for 30 per cent of all the energy used in the UK, while the sector now supports more than 21,000 people, both in terms of constructing new projects and maintaining completed schemes.
Given this, the new report calls on the government to make clear its position and ease any uncertainty now present in the sector.
"We have urged the government to clarify the future support which will be available to the renewable sector, and set out how they will work with the Scottish Government to develop a clear, long-term plan that will allow renewable energy to remain a central part of the energy mix," the MPs concluded.
This comes just days after it was announced that Sweden's Vattenfall is to invest some £300 million in building Scotland's biggest offshore wind power testing facility.
