A new student accommodation development containing 1,000 bedrooms is planned for a plot next to Lime Street Station in the city centre, following the purchase of the site by developer Unite.
Hundreds of jobs will be created by the project, according to the firm's managing director Richard Simpson, with the units ready for occupation by the start of the 2019-20 academic year.
It is next to Unite's existing grand central development and the brownfield site already has planning permission in place for 713 bedrooms, but Unite is to apply for this to be increased to 1,000.
Discussing the new development, Mr Simpson said: "We are delighted to have acquired this site in Liverpool for delivery in 2019 to add to our existing portfolio in the city."
The firm already has 3,400 student bedrooms in Liverpool, but plans to raise this to 5,000 through the new Lime Street development and another at nearby Oldham Street.
City centre student accommodation is increasingly popular, with many developments being built close to railway stations.
Other examples of this include the Student Castle skyscraper next to Oxford Road Station in Manchester.
