An event has been held to try to find ways of cutting the skills gap in the construction sector across the East Midlands.
Employers attended the event run by the East Midlands Property Alliance (EMPA) in Nottingham this week, where over 120 representatives from public sector bodies across the region were the first to see a new system designed to help SMEs grow, the Nottingham Post reports.
The Local Supply Chain online portal provides details of present and future construction projects, which supply chain partners can see.
Armed with this knowledge, they can plan ahead and budget better - making it easier to judge how many apprentices they need to train.
Head of Empa Alan Coole said: "The construction industry is under increasing pressure to deliver but has the ongoing challenge of a lack of skilled workers and a reluctance from SMEs to grow after the recession."
However, he said Empa members are "really excited" about the potential of the new system.
Last month, the Construction Skills Network report predicted 230,000 new construction jobs would be created in the UK by 2020.
