Construction firms across Wales are getting set to bid for new contracts as Phase 2 of the ambitious Cardiff Metro scheme moves closer to being launched.
Just a few days ago, Transport for Wales confirmed that the second phase of the project, which is designed to offer improved public transport links across the capital city, will soon be going ahead.
As well as ultimately benefiting residents of Cardiff, the project will also benefit construction firms that win contracts for the second phase, with initial reports noting that around £700 million worth of work is to be tendered out over the coming weeks and months.
According to Construction Enquirer, an estimated £100 million of the total funding will come from the Regional Development Fund. However, since this is an initiative of the European Union, concerns have already been raised about whether the recent Brexit vote could put this money in jeopardy.
It was with the aim of easing such concerns that First Minister Carwyn Jones recently stressed that, while the political landscape may have changed, Wales will still be pushing ahead with several major infrastructure projects.
Addressing investors, he explained that, while funding "may not be in exactly the same form as before...Wales is still open for business".
