A construction industry summit is to be held in Plymouth to seek ways of attracting more skilled workers to the sector, in order to deal with an anticipated boom in building in the city.
The Building Plymouth Summit will be held in Derriford on January 27th, with both constructors and training organisations taking part, the Plymouth Herald reports.
Key industry figures in attendance include Karen Blacklaw, from the Construction Industry Training Board; Tony Carson, chair of Plymouth Construction Training Group; Frances Brennan, of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership and Brett Butler-Smythe, a self-employed building contractor who was one of the finalists in reality TV show The Apprentice.
Building Plymouth skills co-ordinator Emma Hewitt, who will be among the speakers, told the paper: "This is all about getting local people into jobs and up-skilling the workforce.
"We will unveil a delivery plan and key objectives for 2016, including a programme of events."
She added that the city is in line for an "unprecedented" building boom in 2016.
