The Scottish government has unveiled plans to spend £230 million building or refurbishing 19 new schools, work that could create hundreds of jobs.
First minister Nicola Sturgeon said the work will complete the £330 million project set out in its October 2014 Budget for the fourth phase of its Schools for the Future programme, noting that it will take the number of educational institutions built or refurbished to 112 - twice the original target of 55.
Discussing the impact on jobs, she added: "This infrastructure investment programme has already generated an estimated 11,000 construction jobs and 230 apprenticeship placements."
Adding in the three previous phases of building work, £1.8 billion has been spent on schools.
The new schools in the current round will include Blairdardie Primary and Carntyne Primary in Glasgow, Queensferry Community High School in Edinburgh, Burnside Primary School in South Lanarkshire and the new Inverurie academy in Aberdeenshire.
