Wandsworth Council has unveiled a shortlist of five possible contractors for a project to revive a sink estate.
The £1 billion Winstanley and York Road scheme is designed to regenerate a 32-acre area, with around 2,000 new homes and retail, leisure, office and community space.
Wandsworth has shortlisted Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Investments and First Base, Berkeley Group, C&C Properties UK & Pinnacle Group, Lend Lease Europe Holdings and Taylor Wimpey UK.
The project will include the refurbishment of some existing blocks such as Ganley Court, Gagarin House and Shepard House on the York Road estate, in addition to the construction of new housing.
Bilfinger GVA has been advising the council on the establishment of a shortlist. Its chief executive Gerry Hughes said: 'We are delighted that the calibre of the five shortlisted parties matches the scale and potential for this significant estate regeneration opportunity.'
The development will not be the only source of new construction jobs in Wandsworth, with the Nine Elms project continuing.
A careers expo for Nine Elms will be held in Battersea next week.
