A new £300 million project to create an innovation quarter in Swansea has taken a step forward with the awarding of the contract for the first phase.
Kier construction has been awarded the £26 million contract by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David to build its new Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Engineering, plus a new library building.
The project will also create 25 local jobs and 250 apprenticeships, while more will follow as further phases of work are carried out.
Kier noted that it has worked closely with the university to ensure benefits of the scheme are felt locally.
Eventually, the new waterfront area of Swansea will be a fully-fledged innovation quarter based around science, technology and new media, boosting the local economy and acting as a centre of learning in the creative industries.
The new campus buildings are scheduled to be completed and ready for use by the start of the 2018 academic year.
