The government has overturned a decision to refuse planning permission for a new 24-storey residential tower block in the Swiss Cottage area of London.
Essential Living had appealed the decision by Camden Council to refuse planning consent for the block, which had been turned down on the grounds that it would blight the area due to its scale.
However, the Department for Communities and Local Government has overturned the decision on the advice of the planning inspector.
While this has caused dismay at Camden Council and among local opponents, Essential Living has welcomed the news.
Managing director of the developer Scott Hammond said: "The extensive scrutiny of the scheme during the public inquiry has revealed the significant benefits of the scheme in terms of new homes for rent and community space."
As well as the tower, there will be two linked five and seven-storey buildings above Swiss Cottage Tube station, with 184 apartments being built in total.
The existing block of flats on the site will be demolished to make way for the development.
