The start date for construction of the twin towers in the Vauxhall Square scheme in south London has been confirmed.
Developer CLS has said it plans to begin enabling work in 2017, which includes demolishing existing buildings on the site, part of the Nine Elms regeneration area, Construction Enquirer reports.
Executive chairman Sten Mortstedt said the first phase would include the construction of a three-storey basement, 188,000 sq ft of grade A office space and a residential tower.
When complete, the scheme will include 1.6 m sq ft of space and consist of 454 apartments in two 50-storey towers, plus 124 affordable apartments, 353,300 sq ft of office space, a hotel, retail facilities, a cinema and a hostel.
The Nine Elms project area occupies a 195-hectare stretch along the south bank of the Thames from Vauxhall to Battersea, including 20 interconnected building projects.
In addition to thousands of new homes, there will be major additions of retail, office and commercial space, a new footbridge across the river and two new Tube stations linked to the Northern line.
